Daily Prayer in Church
Morning Prayer and Evening Prayer are said in church on most days. See the pewsheet for times. These are short services with a long history going back to the monastic services before the Reformation. Morning Prayer takes about half an hour and Evening Prayer about twenty minutes. There are usually a small group who meet for these and new people are very welcome. As with all of our acts of worship, these give us an opportunity to join in prayer with people all around the world.
Prayer Groups
For further information on any of the prayer groups, please phone the Parish Office on 01325 469891.
Intercessory Prayer Group - 1st Tuesday, Sheraton Park
This group has been meeting for over ten years, but is always welcoming of new members. It is led by Enid Smith and is hosted by Pam Davison at Sheraton Park (on the right at the 'far end' of Blackwell). The group meets at 10.00am on the first Tuesday of most months. Each meeting begins with a brief opportunity for people to mention those things that they would like to be included in the prayers. Coffee is served at about 10.45am for those who wish to stay on.
Contemplative Prayer Group
This is a prayer group in the contemplative style. Contemplative prayer is silent, and the emphasis is on simply opening ourselves to God, and learning to wait on him.
"The invitation to solitude and silence is ... an
invitation to enter more deeply into the intimacy of relationship with the
One who waits outside the noise and busyness of our lives. It is the invitation
to communication and communion with the One who is always present even when
our awareness has been dulled by distraction. It is an invitation to the
adventure of spiritual transformation in the deepest places of our being, an
adventure that will result in greater freedom and authenticity and surrender
to God than we have ever experienced."
- Ruth Barton, "Invitation to Solitude and Silence"
Please contact Debbie Gill if you'd like further details.
Morning Prayer and Coffee - 3rd Wednesday, 3 Holyrood Avenue
This takes place at the home of Kirsten Bertram at 10.00am on the third Wednesday of each month, when Morning Prayer will not be said in Church. Instead, the period of prayer will begin with the morning office (ie Morning Prayer) which will lead into a period for intercessions or simply quiet. Coffee will then be served at about 10.45am for those who would like it.
Lydia Prayer Meetings
Lydia Prayer Meetings take place on the 4th Thursday of each month from 10:30am until 11:45pm. Held at 29 E. D. Walker Homes, ladies meet for coffee and prayer for local, national and international concerns, responding as part of the call for women to pray. All are welcome.
Ecumenical Prayer Meetings
There are ecumenical prayer meetings at Elm Ridge Methodist Church on the third Tuesday of the month, and Holy Communion at All Saints' and Salutation on the fourth Wednesday.
